Setting up your Home Display

This page turns a computer into an always-on display: your photos, the time and weather, headlines, your calendar, lists, timers, music and a Claude voice assistant. Everything you enter here is saved in this browser only. Only the first step is needed; add the rest when you want them.

1. Your photos needed
  1. Open Google Photos and open an album (or create one for this display).
  2. Choose Share, then Create link, then Copy link.
  3. Paste the link on the welcome screen and press Connect album.

Photos you add to that album later appear here on their own. Anyone who has the link can view that album, so use an album you are comfortable sharing. No Google Photos? Choose “Use a folder on this Mac instead”.

2. Weather optional

Type your city on the welcome screen, or in Settings under Weather and news.

3. Your Google Calendar optional, read-only
  1. Open Google Calendar settings on a computer.
  2. In the left column under Settings for my calendars, click your calendar.
  3. Scroll to Integrate calendar and copy the Secret address in iCal format.
  4. Paste it into Settings here, under Calendar.

Treat that address like a password: anyone who has it can read your calendar. If it ever leaks, press Reset next to it in Google Calendar.

4. Claude optional, uses your own Claude API key
  1. On a Claude Max or Team plan: on claude.ai go to Settings, then Billing, find API credits and choose Link organization. This claims the monthly API credits included in the plan.
  2. Otherwise: sign in to the Claude Console and add a small amount of credit.
  3. In the Console, open API keys and create a key. Copy it straight away; it is shown once.
  4. Paste it into Settings here, under Claude.

The key stays in this browser and is sent only to Anthropic. Nobody else who opens this page can use it. Timers, lists and music commands work without a key; the key is only for open questions.

5. Voice, sound and full screen
  1. Use Google Chrome. Press Voice (top right) and allow the microphone when Chrome asks.
  2. The first time music opens, Chrome will block the window. Click the pop-up icon at the right of the address bar and choose Always allow.
  3. Click anywhere on the page once so alarms are allowed to make sound.
  4. Press F for full screen, keep the computer plugged in, and set the display not to sleep while on power.
Things to say

Start with the wake word, “Hey Claude” (you can change it in Settings).

Keys: ← → photos, Space pause, F full screen, N news, / type to Claude.

Questions

Can other people who open this page use my Claude key or see my calendar?

No. Your key, album link and calendar address are saved only in the browser you typed them into. Someone else opening this page starts with everything blank and adds their own.

What does it cost?

The page is free. Photos, weather, news, calendar, lists, timers and music cost nothing. The Claude assistant uses your own API credit, typically a fraction of a cent to a few cents per question.

Where does my information go?

Your album and calendar are fetched through a small helper on the site hosting this page. Without that helper the album goes through a public relay service, and the calendar is not read at all. Voice recognition is Chrome's, which sends audio to Google while Voice is on. Questions for Claude go to Anthropic with your key. Nothing is stored by this page outside your browser.

Can it show my whole Google Photos library?

No. Google does not let outside apps read a whole library, so the display reads one shared album. A very large album may show only its most recent few hundred photos.

My photos are not appearing.

Check that the album's link sharing is still on and that you pasted the whole link (it starts with https://photos.app.goo.gl/). Reading a shared album is unofficial, so a change at Google can break it until the page is updated.

Does Claude here know my other Claude chats or projects?

No. This assistant sees only what is on this display: your calendar for today and tomorrow, your lists, timers and the weather. It can add to lists, set timers and alarms and start music. It cannot change your calendar or browse the web.

It does not hear “Hey Claude”.

Check that the dot at the bottom of the screen is green and that Chrome has microphone permission for this site. Speak the wake word and the request in one breath. If it keeps mishearing, pick a different wake word in Settings; “computer” is reliable.

An alarm showed but made no sound.

Chrome only allows sound after you have clicked or typed on the page since it was last loaded. Click anywhere once after opening it.

Does it work in Safari or on a phone?

The display itself does, but voice commands need Chrome on a computer.

Can I run my own copy?

Yes. It is one HTML file plus an optional fetch.php helper. Put both in a folder on any web host that runs PHP, and your album and calendar are fetched by your own site.
